Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - The Vancouver Canadians (0-2) grabbed an early two-run lead on Eugene only to watch the Emeralds storm back with four unanswered runs to take both ends of a double header 6-5 and 4-2 on Tuesday evening out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
After falling in extra innings to Eugene in Game One, the Canadians grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the 1st inning in Game two when SS DH Jorge Flores drew a walk from Eugene starter RHP Chris Wilkes before coming around to score on a double from 1B Balbino Fuenmayor giving Vancouver a 1-0 lead.
The Canadians would add a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning when DH Jorge Flores drew a walk and advanced out to second base on an error from Emeralds RF Corey Adamson who dropped a ball hit out to him by 1B Balbino Fuenmayor. With Flores out at second base, RHP Chris Wilkes would uncork a pair of wild pitches that allowed Flores to advance to third base and then home to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead.
Eugene evened the game up in the top of the 4th inning when Canadians starter LHP Kyle Anderson gave up a double to C Dane Phillips before allowing 1B Goose Kallunki to hit his 2nd home run of the summer over the left field fence.
The Emeralds would benefit from shaky Canadians defense in the top of the 6th inning as Vancouver would watch a pair of runs come across with the big blow coming on a double from 2B River Stevens that scored C Dane Phillips. Rivers would score second later when Canadians SS Jason Leblebijian would short hop 1B Balbino Fuenmayor with a throw across the diamond on a ball hit off the bat of SS Jon Roof.
Eugene reliever RHP Matthew Chabot came into pitch a scoreless 7th inning to secure the game making the final 4-2.
Notes: Both games were scheduled for seven innings as part of a double header... Game One went nine innings as both teams exchanged leads into extra frames... The Canadians drop to 0-2 on the second half of the season and are now 12-8 (.600) out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium through 20 home dates...
