Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett AquaSox (3-5) lost their second straight game to the Vancouver Canadians (6-2) 2-0 and could not provide right-hander Jose Campos with any offensive output to support his excellent effort, going six innings and allowing just one run.
Campos (0-1, 1.50 ERA) was given the loss in the game, the second straight game in which a Frogs starter has been attributed the loss despite allowing only one run. Canadians left-hander Justin Nicolino (1-0, 0.00) outdueled Campos going five innings allowing no runs and striking out seven. Nicolino has pitched ten scoreless innings in his first two career minor league starts for Vancouver.
Campos allowed one hit through 2.1 innings when Canadians catcher Garrett Maines tripled down the right field line and was plated home on the next at-bat by center-fielder Jonathan Jones' sacrifice groundout. With Campos taken out after completing the sixth inning, Maines stepped to the plate as the leadoff hitter in the seventh and added an insurance run with a solo home run to left field.
The Frogs offense managed only three hits in the game, a new season low, and was no-hit by Nicolino until a double by right-fielder Mario Yepez in the fourth inning. Even though the offense was quiet the entire game Everett had the potential tying run at the plate in shortstop Danny Lopez, but he grounded into a game-ending double play to seal the Frogs second straight series loss.
The AquaSox face another tough series this weekend against the Eugene Emeralds, who are tied for first place in the Northwest League's West Division with Vancouver at 6-2. Everett will send out left-hander Jordan Shipers (0-1, 14.73 ERA) against Eugene right-hander Colin Rea (0-0, 4.50 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
