Boise Hawks News Release
A four-run sixth inning rally helped the Boise Hawks claim their first series of the year, defeating the Tri-City Dust Devils, 10-6, before 3,064 fans at Memorial Stadium.
Trailing 6-5, walks to Wes Darvill and Kenny Socorro and a sacrifice bunt put runners in scoring position, with a RBI fielders choice by Kyung-Min Na tying the game, as Darvill scored at the plate ahead of the throw from second-baseman David Hernandez. Chad Noble followed with a sacrifice fly to right to give Boise the lead for good, with an RBI single from Paul Hoilman and an RBI double from Ben Klafczynski pushing the margin to 9-6.
Jin-Yeong Kim tossed three-plus scoreless innings of relief for the win, with Bryce Shafer getting the final two outs in the eighth with the bases loaded, then tossing a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after three innings, getting an RBI double by Klafczynski in the first, a two-run double by Hoilman in the second, and an RBI single by Pin-Chieh Chen in the third, extending his hit streak to seven games. However, Tri-City sent 11 men to the plate in the fourth, with an RBI double by Tim Smalling capping the six-run frame, to give the Dust Devils the 6-5 lead.
Hoilman went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Klafczynski went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in the win, as Boise moves back to 4-4 on the season. Smalling, Hernandez, and Jordan Ribera each had two hits for Tri-City.
The homestand continues for the Hawks tomorrow night, as Spokane heads to town for three games, as Willengton Cruz hits the mound for the Hawks against John Kukuruda at 7:15 p.m.
