
'Sox Hold off Late Spokane Rally, 6-5

SPOKANE Wash. -- The Everett AquaSox (52-30) took a four run lead into ninth inning and then withstood a late rally by the Spokane Indians (41-42) for a 6-5 victory, ending a season high four game losing streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Victor Labrada drove in the first two runs of the game with a sacrifice fly in the third inning that scored Kennie Taylor and an RBI single in the fifth inning that scored Justin Lavey. The 'Sox added on one more run in the fifth when Cody Grosse scored on a Dariel Gomez single to increase the AquaSox lead to 3-0.
Spokane answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth when Kyle Datres scored on a Javier Guevara ground out. Jack Blomgren followed with a single that drove home Aaron Schunk, trimming the AquaSox lead to 3-2 after five innings.
Taylor drove in Tyler Keenan in the sixth inning to make the score 4-2. The 'Sox added on two more runs in the seventh when Labrada scored on a Joseph Rosa RBI double, followed by a Keenan RBI single that brought Rosa home, giving the AquaSox a 6-2 lead after seven.
Spokane made things interesting in the ninth inning. Datres scored on a Blomgren ground out to cut the AquaSox lead to 6-3. Isaac Collins then stroked a two-out, two-run single into right field that scored Schunk and Blomgren, bringing Spokane to within one run, 6-5. AquaSox pitcher Bernie Martinez was able to get Ezequiel Tovar to fly out to Grosse in left field for the final out.
WRAPPING IT UP
AquaSox starting pitcher George Kirby looked sharp in his first action since July 10. Kirby only allowed one hit in three innings, striking out two batters without any walks. Reid Morgan came in to relieve Kirly and went 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits, two earned runs, zero walks and three strikeouts.
Rosa went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run and an RBI, extending his hitting streak to eight games (13-32 .406 avg). Keenan went 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and one rune scored. Gomez was 1-for-4 with one walk and one RBI and is hitting .386 (8-21) through the first five games of the series with a .810 slugging percentage. Taylor was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and one run scored and is hitting .363 (4-11) over his last three games. Lavey was 1-for-4 with one run scored and now has a five-game hitting streak.
LOOKING AHEAD
The final game of the six game series will take place on Sunday, August 8. RHP Taylor Dollard (6-0, 5.35 ERA) will start for the AquaSox and RHP Chris McMahon (6-2 4.48 ERA) will take the mound for Spokane. Listen to the game on KRKO, the pregame show will begin at 4:50 p.m. with the first pitch scheduled for 5:09 p.m.
The AquaSox will be off on Monday, August 9 before beginning a six-day homestand against the Vancouver Canadians on Tuesday, August 10.
