Portland Beavers News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Raul Casanova and Ben Petrick each hit two-run home runs as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox earned a series split with a 5-3 victory over the Portland Beavers Thursday night.

Casanova, who was 3-for-4 in the game, went deep off Portland starter Ben Howard as part of a three-run bottom of the first. Petrick added his 11th home run of the year and his second in two nights in the fourth off Howard, who fell to 4-7 on the year with the loss. Howard gave up five runs on eight hits and struck out two.

Denny Neagle improved to 3-0 on his current rehabilitation stint with the Sky Sox (37-30), allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five in 6.0 innings on the mound.

In the sixth inning, Mark Quinn cut the Sky Sox lead to two with a two-run homer that plated Tagg Bozied, who added two hits for the Beavers. Quinn drove in a run in the top of the first inning to account for all the Beavers' run production in the game.

Brad Clontz came on the ninth to record his 15th save of the season for the Sky Sox.

Bernie Castro was hitless in three at-bats to snap his hitting streak at 10 games.

The Beavers (36-32) travel to Albuquerque Friday to begin a four-game series against the Isotopes.

NOTES: Before the game, the Beavers activated infielder Alex Pelaez from the temporary inactive list and released outfielder Brian Simmons, who was 2-for-20 (.100) with three RBIs in 10 games played with Portland.
