Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Colorado Springs fresh off a 3-1 series win against Portland, the Sky Sox set their crosshairs upon the visiting Reno Aces.

Though the Sky Sox got out to a 4-1 lead after a four-run third inning, the team could not close the door as starting pitcher Alan Johnson (4-2, 2.98) had his first rough outing of the season.

Reno kicked off the action with a quick score in third. Pitcher Bryan Augenstein singling to lead off the frame, a Doug Deeds double advanced Augenstein to third, who scored on Ed Rogers' sacrifice fly in the next at-bat.

The Sky Sox roared back in the bottom half, plating four runs on three walks, a double, and a single, 4-1. Reno would score in each of the next four innings, however, finally taking the lead in the sixth on a Doug Deeds double, 6-5. The two team exchanging runs once more in the seventh, the game went final, 7-6, after Reno closer Blaine Boyer notched a flawless save.

Aces' reliever Jordan Norberto (3-0) was credited with the win while Alan Johnson (4-2, 2.98) took his second defeat of the year. Reno (23-30) snapped their six-game losing streak while the Sox fell to 23-28.

Tomorrow, the Sky Sox will send lefty Josh Muecke (0-3, 7.90) to the mound to take on Reno's Kevin Mulvey (0-4, 4.65). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

Notables:

- In the top half of the fifth, the Aces put four consecutive pitches in play, swinging at seven of eleven offerings that inning.

- In the bottom half of that inning, the Sky Sox did not swing at 15 consecutive pitches. Spanning four batters, the stretch started with a called strike three to Brad Eldred, followed by two four pitch walks to Chris Nelson and Michael McKenry, and finished with a six pitch called strike out of Chris Frey.

- Doug Deeds' fifth inning home run was the first surrendered by Sox starter Alan Johnson this season.
