Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - A grand slam by Marcus Littlewood in the seventh inning capped a 7-1 win for the AquaSox (12-14, 40-24) over the Eugene Emeralds (15-12, 39-25) Sunday night. More than 4,200 fans made it out to Everett Memorial Stadium for the first game of the final homestand of the year.
The home run by Littlewood was the switch-hitter's ninth of the season and first from the right side of the plate.
Sox starter Victor Sanchez (6-2) tossed six scoreless innings to earn his sixth win of the season. The 17-year-old right-hander gave up just three hits and two walks to go along with five strikeouts.
The Sox got the scoring started early with two runs in the first inning. Ketel Marte sparked the rally with a line-drive single, and Taylor Ard followed with a walk. Marte scored the first run of the inning on a groundout, and Ard would come around to score on a two-out double off the right-center wall by Littlewood.
The Frogs would score again in the third inning on a line-drive double by Ard to increase the lead to 3-0. Marte scored on the play after getting into scoring position with a line-drive base hit and stealing second base.
Littlewood's grand slam gave the Sox a commanding lead after seven innings of play, and the Ems would only be able to muster one run in the ninth to keep Everett from earning back-to-back shutouts.
The AquaSox will look to win their third game in a row when they face the Emeralds Monday night in the second game of the three-game series. Left-hander Steven Ewing will be on the bump for the Frogs, and will be opposed by right-hander Justin Hancock (5-2, 1.79 ERA) of Eugene.
