Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs wore superhero uniforms Saturday evening. Lancaster's supply of kryptonite ran short.

A four-run rally in the top of the eighth inning came up short as Southern Maryland evened the weekend series at one game apiece with a 7-4 victory over the Barnstormers at Regency Furniture Stadium.

With York's loss against Somerset, the Barnstormers maintained a 3 1/2 game lead over the Revs in the Freedom Division with 28 games left on the schedule.

Daryl Thompson (5-4) kept Lancaster in check for the first seven innings, scattering seven singles but never allowing a run. He was in his worst trouble in the fifth when singles by Brian Cavazos-Galvez, Lance Zawadzki and Anderson Feliz loaded the bases with one out. The right-hander roared back to strike out Yusuke Kajimoto and Zach Collier in succession to escape with the shutout intact.

Meanwhile the Crabs steadily built a lead off Madison Boer (1-2) and the Lancaster bullpen.

Fred Lewis led off the third with his league topping 52nd walk of the season and moved ahead on a bunt by Antone DeJesus. Zach Wilson lined a single into center, and Lewis beat the throw home for a 1-0 lead. Jovan Rosa singled, and Bryant Nelson walked, setting up Jamar Walton. The Southern Maryland left field raked a double down the right field line, driving home two. Casey Frawley, another former Lancaster player, dropped a single into shallow center for a 4-0 lead.

Boer left after allowing a single and walk to open the fifth. Nelson greeted Kyle Simon with a single to load the bags, and Walton made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly to center.

DeJesus ripped a triple inside the first base bag and scored when Wilson stroked a single just out of Feliz' reach in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-0.

Lancaster made life interesting in the top of the eighth. With two outs and a runner at first, Cavazos-Galvez extended the inning with a ground single up the middle. Charlie Cutler lofted a double into left center, scoring two. Lance Zawadzki followed with a double into the left field corner, and Feliz kept the barrage going with another double to left center.

Orlando Santos retired Kajimoto on a grounder to short to quell the threat, and Cody Eppley got the side in order in the ninth for his third save.

The series concludes on Sunday afternoon with Lancaster sending Joe Gardner (7-4) to the hill against Brian Baker (5-9). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 1:45.
