Tempers Flare as Patriots Explode Offensively at Revs' Expense

Tempers flared midway through Saturday night's contest as the York Revolution took one on the chin against the Somerset Patriots, falling 17-6 in front of 5,781 fans at Santander Stadium. York remains 3.5 games back of first place in the Freedom Division's second half at 22-19, and will look to avoid the three-game sweep on Sunday evening.

The Revs jumped in front for the second straight game, scoring in the bottom of the first inning on a Brandon Boggs RBI single through the right side for a 1-0 lead.

Somerset would take control in the top of the second, however, storming in front 6-1. After a leadoff walk to Michael Burgess, Mike Wilson connected on a two-run homer to left, putting the Patriots ahead. A pair of walks would precede another long ball, this time a three-run shot to right by James Skelton. With two outs, Aharon Eggleston doubled to left-center and scored as David Vidal drove a single off the right field fence, chasing Hunter Adkins (0-1) who was making his second start with York. The right-hander needed just 13 pitches in a perfect first inning, but logged 46 pitches in the lengthy second.

Somerset added two more in the third and three more in the fourth, with the lead eventually growing to 11-1. Wilson crossed the plate on a throwing error by catcher Luis De La Cruz and Robert Andino drove in a run on a base hit to center in the third, while Burgess homered to right-center highlighting the rally in the fourth. Four straight singles would follow the round-tripper, with Adam Donachie and Nate Spears driving in runs. Somerset got to York reliever Edward Paredes for the two runs in the third, ending a 10-appearance scoreless streak for the lefty, while the three runs in the fourth came against Tony Pena, snapping his 14-outing scoreless streak, the Revs' longest of the season.

York made up half of the deficit with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Eric Patterson launched a triple off the right field fence, just missing a home run to start the rally with one out. The triple was the 29th of his Revs career, climbing into a tie for seventh in Atlantic League history. Boggs picked up his second RBI of the night with a single to center, while Andres Perez kept things moving with a double off the right field fence, the record 99th of his York career. After a fielder's choice led to an out at the plate, Telvin Nash took a walk to load the bases. Both benches cleared as Nash and Patriots starter Mickey Storey exchanged words near the first base line after a pair of tight pitches near Nash during the course of the plate appearance. Once order had been restored, De La Cruz and Mikey Reynolds cashed in, each with two-run singles, cutting the deficit to 11-5.

Somerset would respond with six runs in the top of the sixth, pushing the score to its final margin. The Patriots scored the first run on an error by Patterson attempting to make a running grab near the left field corner, while Spears drove in two more on a double to right. Skelton picked up his fourth RBI of the night and seventh of the series with a single to right, while Andino brought home one more with a single up the middle. Burgess closed out the rally with an RBI groundout to first.

Revs relievers combined to retire the final 12 Patriot hitters, as Mike DeMark, Josh Judy, Stephen Penney, and Matt Neil all worked one inning apiece, eventually stopping the bleeding.
