Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

WALDORF, Md. - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs faced-off against the Camden Riversharks at Campbell's Field in Camden, NJ. Getting the ball for the Blue Crabs was left-handed pitcher Wade Korpi. In his only previous start against the "˜sharks this season, Korpi tamed the "˜sharks, allowing no runs in five innings of work to pick up the "W". The Riversharks countered with a righty of their own in Jake Hale (3-4, 4.26). The Crabs would jump in front first but the Riversharks would explode for five in the fifth and hold on for the 5-4 victory.

After receiving dominant pitching over the last handful of starts, the Blue Crabs were looking to get their offense going early against the Riversharks Friday. Left-fielder, Brian Barton, would come through with his second homerun of the season in the second inning to give the Blue Crabs the early 1-0 lead.

The lead would not last however as the Riversharks would storm back in a big way in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on six hits. The inning was highlighted by a Burt Reynolds home run and a Wilson Valdez 2-RBI double. The Blue Crabs would fight back late with three runs in the final two frames but it wouldn't be enough as the Riversharks would hold on to the 5-4 victory.

UP NEXT - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will try to bounce back against the Riversharks Saturday at 5:35pm. Manager, Patrick Osborn, will call upon another lefty in Logan Williamson in hopes that he can have success similar to his last outing in which carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
