Avon, OH. -- The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, allowed the Southern Illinois Miners nine, two out runs as the Crushers fall, 13-5 on Thursday evening.

The loss for the Crushers (30-38) marks the sixth loss over their last seven games. Lake Erie now has won once at All Pro Freight Stadium in six tries since the All-Star Break. The win for the Miners (46-22) ends their road trip with a 3-3 record. They win the season series with the Crushers finishing with a 4-2 record against the Men of Crush.

Both team scored a lot of runs early in the game. The Miners struck first as Aaron Gates walked to start the game on four pitches outside of the strike zone. Shane Kennedy then doubled to left field, moving Gates to third base. The first run of the game came across the plate on a groundout to second base by Craig Massey. Alex De Leon then singled, plating Kennedy and putting the Miners up 2-0 after the first inning.

The Crushers would strike back in the bottom of the second inning. Jose Barraza doubled and Eric Grabe walked. Richard Seigel's sacrifice bunt allowed both runners to move into scoring position. Brendan Costantino's double to left field would score both runners and Bryan De La Rosa would also hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Costantino. De La Rosa motored to third on a single off the bat of Max Casper. Robb Paller then hit a ground-rule double over the right field fence, scoring another run. The Crushers went up, 5-2.

Southern Illinois would not wait long to get back in the game. Kennedy and Massey hit back-to-back one out singles before De Leon hit an RBI double. With runners on second and third, Nolan Earley grounded out to the shortstop, Eric Grabe, allowing Massey to score.

The Miners would retake the lead in the top of the fourth inning and did most of their damage with two outs. Toby DeMello doubled with one out but then Gates hit an RBI single, Kennedy knocked a single and then Massey roped a two-run double all with two outs.

Already leading 7-5 over the Crushers, the Miners did more damage with a four-run sixth inning. Crushers' starter Mike Devine (7-5) got the first two outs in the inning before allowing a single, walking one and giving up two consecutive doubles. Jordan McCoy then entered the game for the Crushers and gave up an RBI single to Earley.

A few runs of insurance would be added by the Miners as they put one run on the board in the seventh and eighth inning. Another two out run would come home in the seventh when Francisco Rosario would double and score on an RBI single from Gates. In the eighth inning, Massey reached with a leadoff walk and came around to score, later in the inning, on a sacrifice fly to center field off the bat of Steve Marino.

Devine was given the loss tonight after allowing 11 runs on 13 hits in 5.2 innings. Devine has surrendered 23 runs in his four starts since the All-Star break. McCoy recorded the final out in the sixth inning and Keegan Ghidotti gave up two runs in two innings of work out of the bullpen. Justin Sinibaldi threw a scoreless ninth inning.

For the Miners, Brooks Trujillo (2-3) got the win in his fifth start of the season. He allowed five runs on eight hits through 5.2 innings. Nick Palacios, Chris DeBoo and Adam Lopez all pitched one scoreless inning of relief and Kyle Tinius went .1 of the seventh inning.

Barraza, De La Rosa and Casper all had multi-hit games for the Crushers while the first five hitters in the Miners order went a combined 14-24 at the plate.

The Crushers will go back on the road and face the Florence Freedom with a series beginning on Friday. Right-hander Juan Caballero (0-1, 4.79) will start for the Crushers and righty Tony Vocca (1-1, 4.05) will begin on the mound for the Freedom. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
