
Beach Bums Shut out by Grizzlies

SAUGET, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums(29-39) dropped the final game of this week's three game series to the Gateway Grizzlies(36-35) by a final score of 3-0.
Gateway's Sam Fischer led off the third inning with a solo home run to left field, his ninth of the season, to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. Jason Scholl doubled the Gateway advantage in the fifth with his third long ball of the season, a solo shot. In the sixth, Brandon Thomas started the inning by getting hit by a pitch then Craig Massoni singled. Ben Waldrip hit a fly ball to right, moving Thomas to third, and finally, Zach Lavy hit an RBI sacrifice fly, scoring Thomas, making it 3-0.
Both teams starters were top notch, including Will Landsheft as he picked up the win to improve to 5-6. He went 7 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits, two walks, and struck out 10. Michael Shreves had a solid start for the Beach Bums, allowing all three runs on six hits, three walks, and struck out four. He falls to 2-6. The save went to Jordan Wellander as he faced the final four Bums and struck them out. It was his second.
Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums return to northern Michigan and Wuerfel Park to start a three game set against the Normal Cornbelters. Chris Carmain gets the call for Normal while Austin Bembnowski will start for the Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm, on 101.9- The Bay.
