
South Carolina's Machesney Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Daren Machesney of the South Carolina Stingrays is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 16-22.
The 25-year-old was 2-0-0 with one shutout, a 0.50 goals-against average and a save percentage of .981 in two appearances last week as the Stingrays extended their season-long winning streak to nine games.
Machensey stopped 23 shots in a 3-1 win against Greenville on Friday and stopped all 30 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over Florida on Sunday.
A native of London, Ontario, Machesney is 8-9-0 in 17 appearances this season. He ranks sixth in the league with a 2.39 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.
Machensey has appeared in 54 career ECHL games with South Carolina, Victoria, Elmira and Reading while also seeing action in 112 career games with Hershey, Manitoba and Worcester of the American Hockey League.
A fifth-round selection (143rd overall) by the Washington Capitals in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Machesney played two seasons of junior hockey with the Brampton Battalion from 2004-06, and was selected to the Ontario Hockey League's All-Rookie Team following the 2004-05 season.
