
South Bend Escapes with a 8-7 Win

(South Bend, IN)- South Bend scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated the Lake County Captains 8-7 on Saturday Night. With the win, the Silver Hawks clinched the season series against the Captains. South Bend used four hit in the big inning.
Lake County scored first in the bottom of the second inning. Nellie Rodriguez blasted his 12th homer of the season to give the Captains the 1-0 lead. Dorssys Paulino doubled and Richard Stock doubled him home and the Captains led 2-0.
South Bend scored a total of four runs in the third and fourth inning. Only two of the four runs were earned. The Captains committed two errors on the night. In the two innings the Hawks had just three hits, and cashed in on three walks. The score was 4-2 after four innings.
With the score 8-3 the Captains batted around in the top of the eighth inning and scored four runs. The first two hitters walked and Nellie Rodriguez belted his second homerun on the night. The three-run homer made the score 8-6. Lake County added a run on an RBI double from Grant Fink and the score was 8-7. That was the final.
RHP Dace Kime (4-10) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Kime pitched five innings and allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on four hits and he walked three. Kime struck out six. Alexis Paredes pitched two thirds of an inning and allowed four earned runs on four hits and two walks. Ben Heller pitched one and one third inning and allowed one hit, one walk and fanned three. Carlos Melo pitched one inning and struck out two.
RHP Sean Furney (4-4) started for South Bend and earned the win. Furney went six innings and allowed five hits, three earned runs, one walk and he fanned two. He allowed one homer to Rodriguez. The South Bend bullpen consisted of three pitchers including Silvino Bracho who pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two strikeouts to earn his 16th save on the season.
The Captains will conclude a three game road series on Sunday afternoon in South Bend, Indiana. The Captains will send LHP Luis Lugo (5-7 5.15) to the mound to start the ballgame. The Silver Hawks will counter with RHP John Omahen (4-2, 3.00). First Pitch is at 7:35 PM from Four Winds Field.
