South Bend Cubs News Release

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - With a pair of orders from Hawaii at the end of July, the South Bend Cubs have sold merchandise to fans in all 50 U.S. states since the unveiling of the new logo in December.

The team shipped merchandise all over the United States for much of the season, but hadn't sold anything to customers in Rhode Island and Hawaii. After checking Rhode Island off the list, the Cubs received two orders from Hawaii.

"Yes, it's definitely surprising," said Brandy Beehler, the team's Merchandise Manager. "When I saw that we were really close to getting all 50 states, that's when we started pushing for the last two, Rhode Island and Hawaii."

Just two seasons ago, South Bend only shipped online orders to 33 states. But in eight months since breaking out the new red-and-blue apparel line, Beehler and her team have not only checked off all 50 states, but also Marco Island and Saint Croix, and a slew of other countries, including Sweden, New Zealand and Canada.

In July, Beehler also began working with MiLB to offer international shipping options.

Caps, of all colors and styles, are the best sellers from the team's online store, Beehler said.

"Staying ahead of the demand has been challenging for some of our items. We've started accepting pre-orders for the items flying off the shelf, like your New Era caps," Beehler said.

Beehler said she's struck by the range of fans getting their hands on merchandise - from South Bend natives spread across the country to Chicago Cubs fans all over the world.

Customers who purchase through the online store are then logged in South Bend's system and can receive e-mail blasts from the team alerting them to potential discounts and rewards as recurring customers.

And with the regular season winding down, Beehler is already planning ahead. The Cubs Den Team Store, located beyond the left-field fence at Four Winds Field, will remain open with the same store hours during the offseason. In November, Beehler is planning to re-arrange the entire store for the holiday season, debuting a new South Bend Cubs apparel line and adding Chicago Cubs apparel and caps.
