Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts' (22-19, 64-47) relentless offense posted crooked numbers on the scoreboard throughout the game, blasting the Beloit Snappers (17-23, 43-67), 15-5, Friday at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Lugs scored three in the second, five in the sixth, and six in the seventh against four different Beloit hurlers. Lansing tagged 15 hits, the Snappers committed four errors, and the league's highest-scoring offense batted around three times.
All nine Lugs batters reached base, eight had hits, and seven had RBIs. Dawel Lugo led the squad with three RBIs, smacking two run-scoring singles and bringing in Chris Carlson with a sacrifice fly.
Lansing overcame two early deficits before taking the lead in the sixth against Carlos Navas (Loss, 3-2), who had not allowed an earned run in 29-straight innings before he was shelled for three earned runs in 0.1 IP.
Meanwhile, Lansing's pitchers allowed three home runs, but sliced through the Snappers a sixth-inning flurry. Justin Shafer (Win, 5-2) allowed back-to-back home runs in the sixth, but shut down Beloit for the next three innings, striking out two.
Dusty Isaacs gave up one in the eighth before Jose Fernandez shut the door with a perfect ninth.
Tom Robson started the game for the Lugs, giving up one earned run and striking out three in four innings.
Four Beloit errors allowed the Lugs to thrive during extended innings. After a fielding error in the seventh, Josh Almonte skied a two-run home run to left field, his first of the season.
Later in the frame, David Harris blooped an RBI single that fell in front of four Snappers and gave Lansing a ten-run lead.
Ryan McBroom continued the pounding in the seventh, knocking a two-run double, giving him a league-best 68 runs batted in.
Lansing's offense is back to work Saturday at 7:05 p.m. against Junior Mendez (3-8, 5.56). Starlyn Suriel (7-6, 3.58) gets the nod for the Lugs.
The homestand runs through Sunday, August 9 with LAFCU Fireworks on Saturday and a Kids Day presented by Delta Dental on Sunday. For more information, call (517) 485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
