EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers fell to the Capital City Go-Go, 107-106, on Thursday night in the first meeting between the two teams. Johnathan Williams recorded his ninth career double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers (8-9), but the team couldn't get a shot off in the closing seconds of the loss. Jordan McRae led the Go-Go (6-6) with 28 points.
South Bay got off to a great start as Travis Wear poured in 11 first-quarter points to give the Lakers a 29-23 lead after one. Capital City came roaring back in the second as McRae scored 14 points in the period and the team hit 8-15 from beyond the arc. The big second quarter put the Go-Go up 61-56 at the half.
The Go-Go maintained their lead through three, 89-83, as Chasson Randle scored eight points in the quarter. South Bay put together a valiant effort in the final frame, tying the game at 104 with minutes remaining, but a three by Randle with just over a minute to go put the Go-Go ahead for good.
McRae's game-high 28 points gave the Go-Go the road victory and Okaro White grabbed a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to go with three assists and five steals. Randle scored 20 points as the only other Go-Go to reach double figures.
A double-double by Williams paced the Lakers, while Wear scored a team-high 21 points. South Bay's bench pitched in 47 points as Scott Machado (13 points, seven assists), Joel Berry II (13 points) and Jemerrio Jones (11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals) all scored in double figures. Alex Caruso finished with 12 points and six assists.
