Stars Earn Win at Vivint Smart Home Arena

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, defeated the Northern Arizona Suns 109-97 tonight, earning the club's second win this season at Vivint Smart Home Arena. The Stars will wrap up their three-game homestand on Saturday, Dec. 15, against the Stockton Kings at Bruin Arena at 7 p.m. (MT).

The Stars (8-8) were led by Georges Niang, currently on assignment from the Utah Jazz, who finished with a game-high 28 points on 6-of-10 (.600) from three-point range to go with four rebounds. Utah Jazz two-way player Tyler Cavanaugh recorded 20 points (11 in the first quarter), his third 20-point scoring effort of the season, on 5-of-7 (.714) from three and grabbed seven rebounds. Willie Reed, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2018 NBA G League Draft, tallied 11 points, nine rebounds and an NBA G League career-high four steals while recording a game-high plus/minus of +25. Grayson Allen, currently on assignment from the Utah Jazz, tallied 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and one block. Shonn Miller recorded his first double-double of the season with 12 points and a season-high 11 rebounds in 26 minutes of play off the bench, and Isaiah Cousins dished out a game-high 11 assists, his third game this season handing out double-digit assists.

Northern Arizona (3-15) was paced by Phoenix Suns two-way player George King, who finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Elie Okobo, currently on assignment from the Phoenix Suns, was the team's second 20-point scorer with a team-high-tying 22 points to go with five assists and four rebounds. Aaron Epps recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards, while Trayvon Palmer led all reserves with 15 points.

The Stars jumped out to a 16-2 advantage in the first quarter, but the Suns trimmed the lead and entered halftime trailing by six points (57-51). The Stars held a three-point lead (83-80) entering the fourth frame, and the Suns opened the frame with a 4-0 spurt to take a one-point lead (84-83). The Suns held a one-point edge (88-87) with 7:49 remaining in the game, but the Stars pulled ahead on a 7-0 run (94-88) and never relinquished their lead, winning by 12 points to seal their fifth double-digit victory of the 2018-19 campaign.

The Stars committed a season-low nine turnovers while forcing 18 Suns miscues. Salt Lake City held the edge in three-pointers (15-10), free throws (18-11), rebounds (48-47) and assists (24-21). Northern Arizona outshot the Stars (.447-.409) and blocks (5-4).

Salt Lake City will conclude its three-game homestand on Saturday, Dec. 15, against the Stockton Kings (Sacramento Kings affiliate) at 7 p.m. (MT).
