ONTARIO, Calif. - The Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario (8-7) came victorious against the Erie Bayhawks (7-7), 130-122, in a Thursday night shootout.
Two-way player Johnathan Motley led all scorers with 36 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. His 22 free throw attempts and 18 makes were both career highs.
The Clippers hung with Erie despite trailing for almost the entire game. After falling behind midway through the fourth quarter by 9, their largest deficit of the night, Agua Caliente responded with a 12-2 run. With 6:28 left in the final frame, a three pointer by guard Ryan Boatright capped off the run and gave Agua Caliente a 110-109 lead and they never looked back.
Boatright provided the boys from Ontario a huge spark off the bench, scoring 17 points and dishing out four assists.
Both teams came out of the gates firing, with Erie shooting 69.6 percent from the field and Agua Caliente shooting 65 percent in the opening quarter. The 130 points scored is a season-high for the Clippers.
Forward RJ Hunter led the Bayhawks with 29 points and grabbed seven boards. Terrance Jones added 25 points, 18 of which came in the first half.
Up next for Agua Caliente is a trip to Las Vegas for the G League Winter Showcase. The Clippers first game will be played against the Grand Rapids Drive on Wednesday, December 19 at 6 p.m. (PST) on court 2 and will be followed by a showdown with the Capital City Go-Go on Friday, December 21 at noon (PST) on court 1.
