South Bay Falls to Texas on the Road

FRISCO, TX - The South Bay Lakers couldn't capitalize on a strong first half as they lost to the Texas Legends, 134-119, on Saturday night. Devontae Cacok paced the Lakers (10-11) with a team-high 22 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Brandon Fields finished the night with 20 points and 20 assists to lead the Legends (13-10) to the win.

After combining for 290 points the last time they met, the two teams continued to pile on the points early on, with South Bay taking a 37-33 lead after one. Cacok came off the bench for nine quick points to lead the Lakers. South Bay gained a 76-62 halftime edge as Kostas Antetokounmpo tallied nine second-quarter points and the Lakers shot a season-best 71.4 percent from the field in the frame. Cacok finished the first half with 16 points and Antetokounmpo ended the half with 13 of his own. Fields recorded a 15-point, 10 assist double-double in the half to pace the Legends.

Texas had their way in the third quarter as they went into the final frame with a 102-99 lead. It was more of the same for the Legends in the fourth quarter, as they outscored the Lakers in the second half by 29 points to grab the home victory. Moses Brown and Antonius Cleveland combined for 33 points in the second half for Texas.

Fields' huge double-double guided Texas to the victory and Cleveland finished with a game-high 29 points. Brown scored 23 points off the bench and Trahson Burrell tallied 21 points and 12 rebounds for the second unit. Aric Holman finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals and Dakota Mathias also scored in double figures with 10 points.

Cacok led the way for South Bay with 22 points and nine rebounds off the bench, while Antetokounmpo paced the starters with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Talen Horton-Tucker finished with 16 points, three assists and three steals and Reggie Hearn tallied 14 points, five rebounds and eight assists. Travis Wear also scored 14 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists, while Zach Norvell Jr. reached double figures with 11 points and six rebounds.

South Bay returns home when they host the Iowa Wolves on Wednesday, January 8 at 7:00pm from the UCLA Health Training Center.
