Nashville Sounds News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY – The red-hot Nashville Sounds won their season-best fourth consecutive road game in an 11-7 triumph over the division-rival Oklahoma RedHawks on Monday evening at SBC Bricktown Ballpark in the opener of a four-game series. The see-saw battle included six lead changes.

The Sounds (59-42), a season-best 17 games above .500, won for the 14th time in their last 18 contests and continue to lead the PCL East division by 5 ½ games.

Tony Alvarez led the Nashville offense with a three-hit, four-RBI effort that included his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth inning to straightaway center off Oklahoma starter Victor Santos.

Nashville grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single by Tomas de la Rosa before falling behind by a run in the bottom of the frame, 2-1. Alvarez's two-run longball in the third put the visiting Sounds back on top, 3-2, but Oklahoma quickly responded again in their half of the inning, posting three runs on a Mike Lamb RBI single and Paul Ottavinia two-run knock.

Oklahoma All-Star outfielder Jason Jones extended the RedHawks' advantage to 6-3 in the fifth when he belted a solo home run off Sounds reliever Pat Mahomes, his ninth roundtripper of the year.

The Sounds took the lead, 7-6, with a four-run sixth, highlighted by a two-out, two-run J.J. Davis single. Oklahoma's Jeff Pickler quickly knotted the contest one more time in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single.

Brad King put Nashville ahead to stay with a run-scoring single off reliever C.J. Nitkowski in the top of the seventh. The pesky RedHawks threatened again, loading the bases with two outs in the bottom half when Nashville skipper Trent Jewett summoned left-hander Mike Gonzalez from the bullpen. The young southpaw fanned pinch-hitter Cole Liniak on three pitches to escape the jam.

Alvarez added a pair of insurance runs for Nashville in the eighth with a two-run single, and the Sounds plated the game's final run in the inning on a Reynaldo Garcia wild pitch.

Mahomes (7-4) picked up the victory in relief of spot starter Justin Reid for the Sounds, while Nitkowski (3-3) was tagged with the loss. Gonzalez stayed on to pitch a scoreless eighth and ninth for the Sounds -- catching Ottavinia looking to end the game -- to pick up his first career Triple-A save.

The teams meet again on Tuesday evening at 7:05 p.m. in the second game of the four-game set. Left-hander Dave Williams (3-2, 2.72) takes the hill for the Sounds to face Oklahoma southpaw Mario Ramos (0-2, 4.20).
