
Scott Hodges Named PCL Batter of the Week

EDMONTON, AB - Edmonton Trapper third baseman Scott Hodges has been named the Batter of the Week in the Pacific Coast League for the week of July 14-20. Hodges batted .474 (9-for-19) with three home runs and 10 RBI in five games during the week. He scored six runs, had one double, posted a .500 on-base percentage and slugged 1.000. Hodges' performance helped the Trappers take four of five games from the Tucson Sidewinders. Edmonton is in first place in the North Division, five games ahead of the second-place Salt Lake Stingers. Hodges is the first Edmonton player to receive a Player of the Week award in 2003.
The Louisville, Kentucky native had three, three-hit games this past week. He homered, had three hits and drove in three runs in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday night, then hit a game-winning longball in the top of the eighth inning on Saturday and capped the week by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a double, a home run and three RBI in Sunday's 6-3 victory by the Trappers.
Hodges, 24, is batting .469 (28-for-69) with five home runs and 18 RBI in 18 games in July. He has scored 12 runs and has nine extra-base hits (four doubles, five home runs) this month. Hodges opened the month by hitting safely in 13 consecutive games, a season-high for the third baseman. Overall this season he is batting .298 (104-for-349) with 10 home runs and 48 RBI in 88 games.
Hodges was originally selected by the Montreal Expos in the first round (38th overall) of the 1997 draft. He was rated by Baseball America as the ninth-best prospect in the Expos farm system before the season and is in his first season at the Triple-A level. In 676 career minor league games Hodges has 52 home runs and 353 RBI. He has a career .276 batting average (699-for-2530).
