Abbott Lifts Winders to Win in Salt Lake

Paul Abbott struck out 12 batters over 6.1 innings Monday night earning his second win of the year in Tucson's 8-2 victory at Salt Lake. Abbott allowed six hits and two runs in his eighth game with the Sidewinders.

The game opened a 14-game, 12-day road trip for the Sidewinders. The win also moved Tucson to within a game of .500 again after losing six of its last eight

The Sidewinders erased an early 1-0 deficit by scoring six times in the second against Stingers starter Billy Stokley. Steve Neal broke up a 1-1 game with a three-run homer to left field. Danny Ramirez and Brian Gordon added run scoring ground outs for the final runs in the inning.

Tucson increased the lead to 7-1 with a single run in the fourth. Three consecutive singles by Tim Olson, Jeff Waldron and Danny Ramirez produced the run.

Ramirez drove in another run in the eighth when he singled in Olson. Ramirez finished with two hits and three RBI. Olson had three hits and scored three runs. Devore and Martin also produced three hits for Tucson in the 16 hit attack.

Sidewinders improved to 50-51. Tucson and Salt Lake will play game two of the series Tuesday night (6:00 p.m. Tucson time) at Franklin Covey Field. Chris Capuano (6-1 3.57) will start fo the Sidewinders against Chris Bootcheck (4-7 4.90).
