Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Oklahoma City - The Nashville Sounds collected nine extra-base hits, including three home runs, in a 10-0 shutout win against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Friday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Nashville starting pitcher Dillon Overton, from Weatherford, Okla., tossed six scoreless innings and combined with Liam Hendriks and Ryan Doolittle to hand the Dodgers their second shutout loss of the season.

The Sounds outhit the Dodgers, 15-5, in front of a sellout crowd of 10,185 to take a 2-1 lead in the series between the teams. Nashville's nine extra-base hits set a season high for a Dodgers opponent.

Nashville (38-23) took the lead in the third inning.

Joey Wendle led off the inning with a single, then scored on a RBI double to left field by Jaycob Brugman for a 1-0 advantage.

The Sounds tacked on their first run of the fourth inning in similar fashion. Renato Nunez led off the inning with a single, then scored on a RBI double to center field from Ryon Healy for a 2-0 advantage. Wendle's RBI double with two outs later in the inning scored Healy for a 3-0 Nashville lead.

The Dodgers loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, Nashville pitcher Overton issued three straight walks to load the bases for Dodgers catcher Jack Murphy, who grounded into a fielder's choice. Micah Johnson was forced out at third base on the play to end the inning.

The Sounds added three runs on two homers in the top of the fifth inning. Bruce Maxwell hit a solo home run into the Dodgers bullpen in left center field for a 4-0 Sounds lead. Brugman followed with a double before Chad Pinder hit a two-run shot into the Sounds bullpen in right center field for a 6-0 Nashville lead.

Four more Nashville runs followed in the sixth inning. Matt McBride drew a walk to lead off, then Bruce Maxwell hit a RBI double to give the Sounds a 7-0 lead. A two-run homer by Brugman followed for a 9-0 Nashville advantage. Healy's RBI single later brought home Nashville's 10th run of the night with two outs.

Oklahoma City (30-29) was last shut out in a game May 3 by New Orleans, 2-0, in Oklahoma City.

Friday marked the team's most lopsided shutout loss since a 10-0 loss to Omaha in the first game of a May 11, 2015 doubleheader at Werner Park.

Overton (6-4) was credited with the win, holding the Dodgers scoreless and to four hits over 6.0 innings. He issued four walks and struck out three.

Dodgers starting pitcher Zach Lee (6-5) suffered a fourth straight loss, allowing six runs and 10 hits - including six for extra bases. He did not issue a walk and struck out four over 4.2 innings.
