New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Destin Hood snapped a scoreless tie with a three-run homer in the seventh inning and the New Orleans Zephyrs held off the Omaha Storm Chasers, 3-2 on Friday night for their seventh win in the last eight games.

Z's starter Paul Clemens, coming off back-to-back rain-shortened complete games, shut out the Storm Chasers on four hits through seven innings, but was not in line for a win until the Zephyrs rallied against the Omaha bullpen.

Reliever Mark Peterson (1-2) hit Carlos Corporan with a pitch to lead off the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Austin Nola kept the inning alive by ripping a single up the middle, and Hood followed with a deep drive to left-center field for his team-leading ninth home run of the year.

Hood also paces the team with 39 RBI, and has driven in nine runs in his last six contests.

Clemens (6-4) continued a torrid run for the Zephyrs' starting pitchers, who have posted a 1.12 ERA over their last 14 games, but Omaha rallied against reliever Eric Jokisch in the eighth.

With one out, four consecutive singles scored a run, and Jokisch issued a two-out walk to Hunter Dozier with the bases loaded to force in a second run.

The Zephyrs turned to Jo-Jo Reyes, who induced an inning-ending fly out from Balbino Fuenmayor. Reyes then retired the side in order in the ninth to secure his first save.

Former Zephyr Brian Flynn held the Z's hitless over 3 1/3 innings before exiting, having thrown 62 pitches.

New Orleans and Omaha continue the series on Saturday at 6 p.m.
