Sounders FC Faces Inter Miami CF for First Time in Franchise History
April 16, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - After a 4-2 aggregate win over New York City FC in the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Semifinals, Seattle Sounders FC returns home to host Inter Miami CF in MLS action tonight at Lumen Field (7:00 p.m. PT / FS1, FOX Deportes, Sirius SM, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
TRAFFIC NOTE: Fans and media are encouraged to plan ahead tonight for their arrival to Lumen Field, with the Seattle Mariners game against the Houston Astros beginning at 6:10 p.m. PT across the street at T-Mobile Park, as well as a concert beginning at 7:00 p.m. PT at WaMu Theater. Traffic in the SODO area is expected to be heavy with both pro teams playing side-by-side for the first time this season.
This matchup is the first meeting between the two sides, with the clubs yet to face off since Inter Miami CF joined MLS as an expansion team prior to the 2020 season. The contest also marks the fourth team Seattle has faced in 2022 that was founded in 2017 or later. Sounders FC opened the MLS campaign at home against Nashville SC (2020) before playing Austin FC (2021) and Minnesota United FC (2017) on the road prior to hosting Miami (2020). Seattle has a 1-1-1 record in those three matchups.
Following tonight's contest, Sounders FC has a week off before heading to the Bay Area for a matchup against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, April 23 (7:00 p.m. PT / FOX 13, TUDN, Prime Video, iHeartMedia, El Rey 1360 AM).
