Sounders FC 2 Signs Midfielder Marlon Vargas

SEATTLE, WASH. - Seattle Sounders FC 2 today announced that it has signed midfielder Marlon Vargas. Vargas has been part of the Sounders Academy since 2016 after initially signing from partner club Central California Aztecs earlier that year. The signing brings S2's roster to 17 contracted players.

"Marlon has earned the opportunity to join S2," said Sounders FC Director of Player Development Marc Nicholls. "He has steadily progressed through our system and is now ready to make an even bigger impact on our club. Credit must also go to our partner club, the CCA."

Vargas, 17, has 19 goals and 26 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions this season, while netting five goals in 21 games for the Sounders U-15/16 team last season. He is the fourth player born in 2001-2002 to sign a professional contract with S2.

"Marlon is a very creative and imaginative player," said S2 Head Coach John Hutchinson. "He currently leads the nation in assists and will bring a unique skillset to our team."

S2 is 2-5-1 this season and returns to action this Saturday against Portland Timbers 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. PT at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, and the game can be streamed on ESPN+.
