Sound Tigers top Providence for second preseason win

North Kingstown, R.I. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers won their second preseason game in as many nights with a 5-3 triumph over the Providence Bruins at the University of Rhode Island's Boss Arena on Wednesday night.

The Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the New York Islanders, were led by two goals from returnee Steve Regier and a trio of tallys from newcomers Luch Aquino, Jamie Johnson and Tyler Liebel.

Regier scored the eventual game winner at 15:53 of the second period and added an insurance goal early in the third. Regier snapped a 3-3 tie when he fired home a one timer on a centering feed in the slot. Aquino and Brian Rodney earned assists on the goal.

Aquino also scored a goal when cashed in on a rebound on a power play opportunity for a 2-0 lead in the first.

Providence overcame a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 second period lead before Liebel weaved through the Providence defense to get the equalizer at 11:47 of the second, just 32 seconds after the Bruins had taken a 3-2 lead. Ken Magowan had two assists, including one on Liebel's goal.

Goaltender Michael Mole kicked aside 27 shots for the win. Both teams were 1 for 11 on the power play.

The Sound Tigers defeated Hartford 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday and return to the ice for a game with the Albany River Rats Friday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at The Rinks at Shelton.
