Lightning reassign Ramo, Jones to Springfield

TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning reassigned goaltender Karri Ramo and center Blair Jones to Springfield of the American Hockey League today, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced, reducing the Lightning's camp roster to 27.

Ramo, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound native of Asikkala, Finland posted a 3-0 record and a .841 save percentage during training camp scrimmages. He served as the back-up to Johan Holmqvist during last night's game at the Montreal Canadiens. Ramo, 20, was selected by the Lightning in the sixth round, 191st overall, at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Jones, 6-3, 210-pounds, has played in two games during the 2006 preseason and logged nearly 10 minutes of ice time in each game while landing two hits, recording one takeaway and blocking three shots. The first-year pro played in four preseason scrimmage games and recorded two assists. Jones, 20, was selected by Tampa Bay in the fourth round, 102nd overall, at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

The Lightning will play their final home game of the preseason against the Detroit Red Wings tomorrow night (7:30 p.m., AM 620 WDAE). It will be the only time the Lightning will face Red Wings this season. Tampa Bay will close out its preseason schedule on Saturday at Dallas (8 p.m., AM 620 WDAE) before opening the regular season on October 5 at Atlanta (7 p.m., SunSports, AM 620 WDAE). They will open their 2006-07 home schedule on October 7 against the Boston Bruins (7:30 p.m., SunSports, AM 620 WDAE).
