Sound Tigers To Open Third Season This Weekend

BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers will begin their third season of play-- and their third as the top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders --with two games in as many nights this weekend. The Sound Tigers will visit the Hartford Wolf Pack this Friday at 7:05 p.m. and host the Philadelphia Phantoms this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard. Friday's game will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. In addition, all Sound Tigers' games will be web cast live this season at www.soundtigers.com.
Friday will mark the debut of Greg Cronin as head coach of the Sound Tigers. Cronin served as an assistant coach for the Islanders from 1998 through the end of last season and still retains the role of director of player development for the big club. He replaces former Sound Tigers Head Coach Steve Stirling who took over as the bench boss on Long Island this past summer.
MasterCard will present Saturday's home opener with several great promotions planned including:
â¢A free 2003-04 Sound Tigers magnet schedule for the first five-thousand fans who enter the arena.
â¢Thomas Woodman performing the national anthem.
â¢A MasterCard intermission, mini-hockey game with the Greater Bridgeport Youth Hockey Association Mites.
â¢Chuck-A-Puck presented by the Sound Tigers Booster Club during the second intermission.
â¢A post-game autograph session featuring Team Captain Alan Letang.
The Sound Tigers Team Mascot Storm is slated to take part in the Columbus Day parade in North Bridgeport this Sunday, October the 12th at 1 p.m.
The Sound Tigers will also host a special Columbus Day matinee against their East Division rivals, the Binghamton Senators, in a rematch of last spring's Eastern Conference Semi-Final this Monday, October the 13th at 4:05 p.m.
Bridgeport Sound Tigers individual-game tickets are on sale at the Harbor Yard box office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., as well as on-line at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 203-368-1000.
