Charlotte Checkers News Release
(Charlotte, NC - Wednesday, October 8, 2003) - The Checkers announce that their American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, has assigned three more players to Charlotte. Goalie Scott Meyer, defenseman Jeff State and right wing Ryan Cuthbert will report to Charlotte and begin the season with the Checkers. Charlotte also announced that it has come to terms with left wing Andrew Ianiero, whose rights were obtained back in June from the Augusta Lynx completing a trade from last season. All the moves are announced today by Checkers Head Coach & General Manager Don MacAdam. Charlotte also released forward Peter Fargher from his tryout agreement. The moves now bring the Checkers official roster to 21players.
Meyer comes back to Charlotte following a terrific ECHL campaign last season. After being assigned to the Checkers late in December of last season from the Hartford Wolf Pack, Meyer gave the Checkers the outstanding goaltending they were looking for. He played in 27 games posting a sparkling 20-5-0 record, a 2.61 GAA, a .917 save percentage and two shutouts. He was also named ECHL goaltender of the month for February just prior to his recall to the Wolf Pack in early March. Meyer will report to Charlotte this weekend.

MacAdam commented on Meyer's assignment to the Checkers. "Scott has proven that he is a premier goaltender at this level. The past two seasons after starting the season with us, he earned a promotion to the AHL."
State will begin his sophomore season with the Checkers, after splitting time between Charlotte and Hartford last season. Under a New York Rangers contract, State is being slowly groomed to give him every opportunity to reach his full potential. He played 29 games with the Checkers last season, and 39 with AHL Hartford. State was signed as a free agent by the Rangers on July 11, 2002. MacAdam remarked on State's addition. "We didn't see a lot of Jeff last season but we liked what we saw. His size (6'6") is welcome and we're happy to have him back. He had a good training camp in Hartford and I know he will continue to work on the things that will hopefully get him back in the AHL."

The Wolf Pack also sends rookie right wing Ryan Cuthbert to the Checkers. Cuthbert played five seasons with the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Hockey League. MacAdam critiqued his new rookie winger. "Ryan is a high energy player who is highly thought of by the New York Rangers. He presently has a minor injury and won't be ready until about two weeks. We're anxious to see him on the ice"

Andrew Ianiero will enter his sophomore ECHL season looking to improve on what was a very successful rookie season. Ianiero was selected by Ottawa Senators in the fifth round (#154 overall) of the 1999 National Hockey League entry draft. He also was selected to play in last season's ECHL All-Star game.
MacAdam commented on Ianiero's signing . "Andrew had a very productive junior career, and all the people we talked to in Dayton and Augusta feel that he will fit in well with what the Charlotte Checkers are all about."
