Bridgeport Islanders News Release
NORFOLK, VA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 5-2 on the road to the Norfolk Admirals Friday at the start of a three-game-in-three-day weekend.
Norfolk jumped out to a 2-0 with lead with a pair of early first-period goals just seven seconds apart as Eric Meloche, in his second game as an Admiral, notched his second of the season, his first with the team, off assists from Ajay Baines and Matt Keith at 2:40, and Keith added his second of the year off assists from Dustin Byfuglien and Jason Morgan at 2:47.
Norfolk upped the lead to 3-0 on the fifth goal of the season by Carl Corazzini off assists from Martin St. Pierre and Milan Bartovic at the 5:44 mark, but the Sound Tigers answered 53 seconds later when Jeff Hamilton scored his sixth of the year. Hamilton increased a goal streak to four games and a point streak to five with the unassisted tally.
The Admirals regained the three-goal lead when Corazzini swiped home his second goal of the game from down low on the left wing 11:17 into the middle frame off assists from James Wisniewski and Bartovic to make it 4-1, but Hamilton pulled the Sound Tigers back to within a pair with a five-on-three, power-play goal, his second marker of the game and seventh of the year, off assists from Allan Rourke and Rob Collins with 6:17 left in the second period.
The Sound Tigers had the better of the play in the third period, outshooting Norfolk 10-9 in the final 20 minutes, and pulled goaltender Frederic Cloutier in favor of an extra attacker with just over a minute left to play, but Morgan iced the win at 5-2 with an empty-net goal, his first tally of the season, with 47.4 left to play off an assist from one-time Sound Tiger Steve Munn
Corazzini was the first star of the game, Keith the second and Meloche the third. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 4 on the power play and 5 for 5 on the penalty kill. The Admirals had a 36-27 shots on goal advantage. Cloutier took the loss with 31 saves in his Sound Tigers debut while Adam Munro made 25 saves for his eighth win of the season for Norfolk.
The Sound Tigers will continue the stretch of three straight road games when they visit the Hershey Bears this Saturday at 7 p.m. and again this Sunday at 5 p.m. All Sound Tigers games are web-cast live at www.soundtigers.com. Fans can also watch all games live on the B2 Networks.
