Providence, R.I. - Colin Forbes scored twice and Keith Aucoin had three assists as the Lowell Lock Monsters (12-12-1-2) defeated the Providence Bruins (8-11-1-1) 3-2 at the Dunkin Donuts Center on Friday night. The game was delayed for 40 minutes as it took the Monsters over three hours to make the 75-mile trek to Providence through the heavy winter weather.

Tom Lawson got his first start between the pipes for the Monsters, and saw his share of action in the opening frame. The Bruins had 12 shots and three scoreless power plays in the period. Providence took the 1-0 lead when a shot by Ben Guite rang off the post and into the low slot, where Tyler Redenbach banged it in for his ninth of the season. Lawson was reassigned by the Colorado Avalanche from San Diego in the ECHL after recalling G Vitaly Kolesnik on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Lowell had their chances in the first with Kevin Estrada and Frantisek Skladany narrowly missing on opportunities in front of the net. But the first stanza came to a close with the Bruins holding a 1-0 lead.

The Monsters pressured hard in the second period. They fired 10 shots on goal in the period, not including Paul Healey's blast from the high slot that dinged off the post. Moments later Ryan Steeves was denied by G Tim Thomas right in front of the net, and on the ensuing scuffle Lowell was awarded a power play. That's when the Monsters broke their scoreless drought with a power play tally by Colin Forbes, rapping in a centering feed from Keith Aucoin, who missed the last three games with a foot injury. Lowell held Providence to just two second period shots.

Starting the third period on the power play, Lowell surrendered a 2-on-1 just 30 seconds in but Lawson made the save and preserved the 1-1 score. Just 30 seconds later Pavel Brendl gave the Monsters the lead, burying his sixth of the season off another Aucoin feed for their first lead in over eight periods. Lawson kept the Monsters ahead with a brilliant glove save on a Bruins power play with 5:34 left, and immediately after the penalty kill, Forbes raced in on a rush with Aucoin and snapped home his second of the game. Aucoin picked up his third point of the game on the goal. The Bruins did pull within a goal with 1:16 left and their net empty, but it wasn't enough, and Lawson picked up the win in his first game in a Monsters uniform.
