Bridgeport Islanders News Release
NORFOLK, VA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 4-3 on the road to the Norfolk Admirals Saturday in a game that had well over 100 penalty minutes, three lead changes and a penalty shot.
Looking to rebound from last night's 5-2 loss in Norfolk, the Sound Tigers took the early play to the Admirals Saturday and led 1-0 after the first period as Ryan Kraft scored his second goal in as many games and seventh of the season off assists from Brendan Yarema and Bruno Gervais at the 10:03 mark. It was a major, power-play goal, and the helper was Yarema's second in as many games since signing with the Sound Tigers earlier this week.
Norfolk turned things around with a pair of second-period, power-play goals as Pavel Vorobiev, who was in the penalty box when Kraft scored, tied the score at 1-1 with his second goal on the advantage in as many games and his eighth overall of the season at the 1:37 mark off assists from Jason Morgan and James Wisniewski who then gave the Admirals their first lead at 2-1 at 6:02 with his second goal in as many nights and fourth of the year off an assist from Marty Wilford.
The Sound Tigers tied the game at 2-2 with 5:38 left in the middle frame as Barrett Heisten scored his second goal in as many games since coming back from a groin injury. Keith Aldridge and Chris Campoli assisted on the goal, which was Heisten's fourth of the season.
The second period was also punctuated by a pair of fights, the second of which resulted in game misconducts for Yarema and Norfolk's Travis Moen.
The Sound Tigers regained the lead at 3-2 1:45 into the third period when Kraft scored his second of the game and eighth of the season off a pretty feed by Rob Collins. However, the Admirals rallied for a pair of goals and the win.
Rene Bourque tied the score at 3-3 with his 13th goal of the season at the 9:15 mark off assists from Matt Ellison and Jim Vandermeer, and Duncan Keith made it 4-3 just 50 seconds later with his second of the year off assists from Quintin Laing and Erik Nickulas.
The Sound Tigers had a chance to tie the game when Sean Bergenheim was awarded a penalty shot at the 11:32 mark because he was hooked from behind by Mikhail Yakubov, but Norfolk goaltender Michael Leighton denied his attempt. The Sound Tigers also pulled netminder Dieter Kochan in favor of an extra attacker with less than a minute to play but could not tie the score.
Both teams were 2 for 9 on the power play. The Admirals had a 29-23 shots on goal advantage. Wisniewski was the first star of the game, Keith the second and Kraft the third.
The Sound Tigers will finish the stretch of seven straight road games with four in five days next week. They will visit the Hartford Wolf Pack Wednesday at 7:05 p.m., the Providence Bruins Friday at 7:05 p.m., Hartford again Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and the Lowell Lock Monsters Sunday at 4 p.m. All Sound Tigers games are web cast live at www.soundtigers.com.
