Binghamton Senators News Release
Brandon Bochenski's second period goal held up as the game winner as the Binghamton Senators defeated the visiting Syracuse Crunch on Saturday night 4-2 in front of 4,536 fans at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The win marked Binghamton's fifth straight on home ice, one short of the franchise record set last season.
Chris Kelly picked up a goal 7:06 into the first period giving the Sens an early 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Antoine Vermette and Brian Pothier.
Former Binghamton Ranger Peter Ferraro picked up a goal that was set up by twin brother Chris 15:09 into the first, a goal that tied the game at one.
Jason Spezza quickly gave the Sens the lead back when he scored a highlight reel goal against Syracuse goaltender Karl Goehring just 39 seconds after Ferraro's goal.
Bochenski put home a goal just 1:26 into the second period giving the Sens a lead they would never relinquish. That goal was assisted by Denis Hamel and Jason Spezza.
Jeff Panzer brought the Crunch to within one with his goal at 2:54 of the final period. Peter Ferraro's assist on the goal gave him two points for the night (1g,1a).
Spezza picked up his third point of the contest (2g,1a) when he put home an empty-net goal with only 11 seconds left in the game.
Billy Thompson was outstanding between the pipes for Binghamton making 29 saves on 31 shots to win his fifth consecutive game. The winning streak ties a Ray Emery franchise record of five consecutive wins established early last season.
Binghamton continued their excellent play with the man advantage picking up two goals on six chances tonight. They have scored eight power-play goals in 15 opportunities over their last three games. Syracuse finished the contest 0 for 5 on the power play.
The Sens return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Philadelphia for a 7:05pm tilt with the East Division leading Phantoms. You can catch all of the action on WINR 680AM beginning at 6:35pm.
