
Sound Tigers Lose 5-2 In Hartford

HARTFORD, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 5-2 on the road to the Hartford Wolf Pack Wednesday.
On the heels of a three-goal first period in a 3-0 home win over the Sound Tigers this past Friday, Hartford took a 4-0 lead by the first intermission Wednesday. Brandon Cullen opened the scoring with his first goal of the season off assists from Craig Weller and Matt Kinch 2:10 into the game. Jeff Heerema made it 2-0 with his fifth goal of the year off an assist from Dominic Moore at 11:22. Layne Ulmer upped the lead to 3-0 with his team-leading 17th goal of the season, the Wolf Pack's League-leading 13th shorthanded, off assists from Bryce Lampman and Chad Wiseman at 13:39 chasing Wade Dubielewicz from the Sound Tigers' net in favor of Dieter Kochan. Benoit Dusablon notched his eighth goal of the year off assists from Cullen and Jamie Pushor just 35 seconds later on the first shot faced by Kochan.
The Sound Tigers cut the lead in half with a pair of second-period goals. Brandon Smith put them on the scoreboard just 19 seconds into the middle frame with a power-play goal, his fourth marker of the season, off assists from Jeff Hamilton and Derek Bekar. Bekar then made it 4-2 with his 20th goal of the year off assists from Jody Robinson and Hamilton with 2:47 left in the period.
The Sound Tigers outshot Hartford 11-6 in the third period, but Moore scored the only goal of the frame notching his tenth of the season, unassisted, at the 3:10 mark.
Moore was the first star of the game, Cullen the second, and Dusablon the third. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 4 on the power play while the Wolf Pack were 0 for 2 and had a 26-24 shots on goal advantage. Hartford's Jason LaBarbera made 22 saves. Kochan stopped 16 of the 18 shots he faced in relief while Dubielewicz stopped five of eight in a losing effort.
The Sound Tigers will visit the Albany River Rats this Friday at 7 p.m. and return home to Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard to host the Providence Bruins this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live at www.soundtigers.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. Friday's game in Albany will also be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM.
