Sound Tigers finish tough road stretch

The Sound Tigers finished a stretch of seven straight road games with four in five days, including three in three days, last week. They lost 3-2 in a shootout to the Hartford Wolf Pack Wednesday, 4-0 to the Providence Bruins Friday, 4-0 to Hartford Saturday and 3-1 to the Lowell Lock Monsters Sunday. The Sound Tigers were 0-6-0-1 during the stretch of seven road games in a row and finished last week in sixth place in the East Division with 32 points and a 15-21-1-1 record, including 13-5 at home and 2-16-1-1 on the road.

WED JAN 12th at HAR, 3-2 SOL: After KEN GERNANDER broke Hartford's all-time scoring record with his 344th point via an assist on a power-play goal by ALEXANDRE GIROUX; JOHN MORLANG, power play, and BRENDAN YAREMA, shorthanded, scored to give the Sound Tigers a 2-1 lead. However, DOMINIC MOORE tied the game with a third-period, power-play goal. LAWRENCE NYCHOLAT, JEFF HAMILTON and CHAD WISEMAN scored in the shootout for the Wolf Pack while ROB COLLINS and MATT KOALSKA tallied for the Sound Tigers. WADE DUBIELEWICZ set the Sound Tigers' single-game, season-high mark with 42 saves as Hartford had a 45-24 shots on goal advantage. The Wolf Pack were 2 for 7 on the power play while the Sound Tigers were 1 for 8.

FRI JAN 14th at PRO, 4-0 L: PATRICE BERGERON opened the scoring and DAVID GOVE finished it with BRAD BOYES scoring on the power play and while shorthanded in between. HANNU TOIVONEN made 26 saves for his fourth shutout of the season while WADE DUBIELEWICZ made the same number of stops in a losing effort. Providence was 1 for 2 on the power play, 2 for 2 on the penalty kill and had a 30-26 shots on goal advantage.

SAT JAN 15th at HAR, 4-0 L: Former Sound Tiger STEPHEN VALIQUETTE made 33 saves for his second shutout of the season. CRAIG WELLER, ALEXANDRE GIROUX, RYAN HOLLWEG and DWIGHT HELMINEN scored for Hartford. The Wolf Pack were 2 for 8 on the power play and 9 for 9 on the penalty kill. The Sound Tigers had a 33-20 shots on goal advantage, including a team, single-period, season-high 19 shots in the second.

SUN JAN 16th at LOW, 3-1 L: RYAN BAYDA opened the scoring for Lowell late in the first period. BRUNO ST. JACQUES doubled the Lock Monsters' lead mid-way through the second period. RYAN CALDWELL put the Sound Tigers on the scoreboard with the first goal of his professional career late in the middle frame. CHUCK KOBASEW finished the scoring early in the third period. CAM WARD made 29 saves for the win while DIETER KOCHAN made 28 in a losing effort. Lowell had a 31-30 shots on goal advantage. Bother teams were 0 for 5 on the power play.

SOUND TIGERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – C KEVIN COLLEY Colley, who recently played with a badly-injured hand for over a month, led by example with his usual hard work at both ends of the ice in all four games this week. The New Haven native, who signed his first NHL contract, with the Islanders, this past summer, has seven goals, six assists, 13 points and 111 penalty minutes in 38 games this season.

THIS WEEK – Sound Tigers return home for first time in nearly a month The Sound Tigers will play their first home game since December 28th when they host the Albany River Rats at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard this Friday. They will then visit the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this Saturday.

FRI JAN 21st vs. ALB, 7:35 p.m.: This will be the fourth of eight meetings of the teams this season, the third of four in Bridgeport. The Sound Tigers are 16-6-5 all-time, including 2-1 with a pair of home wins this season, versus Albany who finished last week in seventh place in the East Division with 28 points and a 10-21-4-4 record, including 5-10-2-2 on the road. The River Rats will host the Rochester Americans this Wednesday.

SAT JAN 22nd at WIL, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the fifth of eight meetings of the teams this season, the third of four in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Sound Tigers are 9-4-1 all-time, 2-2 this season with a pair of road losses this season, versus the Penguins who finished last week in fourth place in the East Division with 47 points and a 19-11-5-4 record, including 13-5-1-2 at home. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will visit the Manitoba Moose in Winnipeg this Tuesday and Thursday.
