SHELTON, CT – The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, improved their preseason record to a perfect 3-0 with a 3-0 shutout of the Lowell Lock Monsters at the Rinks at Shelton Wednesday.

With the Sound Tigers piling up a 17-4 first-period shots on goal advantage, Barrett Heisten had the best chance to score early when he moved down the Lowell slot on a two-on-one with Matt Koalska just shy of the game's five-minute mark but was foiled first on a sliding sweep check by the Lock Monsters' Bruno St. Jacques then by Goaltender Davis Parley on the rebound. Parley also made a series of nice saves just before and after the 13-minute mark, including a pretty left-pad stop of a Sean Bergenheim slap shot.

The Sound Tigers finally broke through with 5:49 left in the first period when John Morlang notched his first goal, and third point, of the preseason off assists from Cole Jarrett and Eric Godard. Graham Belak created some extra space on the play by exchanging shoves with Lowell's Craig MacDonald while the puck made its way around to Morlang.

The Sound Tigers doubled their lead to 2-0 on an unassisted, shorthanded goal by Defenseman Keith Aldridge 6:15 into the middle frame.

Both teams changed goaltenders 30 seconds shy of the mid-point of the game with Wade Dubielewicz replacing David Cann for the Sound Tigers and Rob Zepp taking over for Parley. Cann stopped all seven shots he faced Wednesday and is a perfect 25 for 25 this preseason having blanked the Albany River Rats on 18 shots in 30:48 of work last Friday. Parley stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced.

Dubielewicz kept the Lock Monsters off the scoreboard when he denied MacDonald's breakaway inside the final half-minute of the second period. Zepp then stoned Godard on a breakaway 8:30 into the third period.

The Sound Tigers put the game away with 10:50 left on the clock when Morlang scored his second goal of the game off assists from Godard and Belak. That line totaled two goals and five points and was a combined +6 Wednesday.

Morlang was the first star of the game, Godard the second and Dubielewicz the third with 14 saves on 14 shots. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 4 on the power play, 6 for 6 on the penalty kill and had a 36-21 shots on goal advantage.

Wednesday's game was the first of the preseason for Jim Campbell, Rob Collins, Cole Jarrett, Ryan Kraft, Justin Mapletoft, Justin Papineau, Jody Robinson, Richard Seeley, Aldridge and Godard. It was also the first-ever in a Sound Tigers uniform for Campbell, Seeley and Aldridge.

The Sound Tigers will play the last of their four preseason games when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Rinks at Shelton this Saturday at 7 p.m. The Sound Tigers will open the 2004-05 regular season on Saturday, October 16th when they host the Albany River Rats at 7:05 p.m. at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard.
