P-Bruins fall in pre-season opener

The Providence Bruins began their 2004 pre-season slate of games on Wednesday night at the University of Rhode Island's Bradford R. Boss Arena, falling to the Portland Pirates, 6-2. The Bruins will continue their pre-season schedule with three games this weekend.

Bruin center Brad Boyes, a 2003-04 AHL Second-Team All-Star, figured in both goals, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the third period. Left wing Matt Dzieduszycki notched the other Bruin tally.

Matt Underhill played the first half of the game, stopping 15 of the 18 shots he faced. Nick Boucher replaced him at 9:38 of the second period, and stopped nine of the 12 shots he faced.

The Bruins will travel to Portland for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Pirates on Friday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m.

The Black and Gold concludes the pre-season schedule with a home-and-home series against the Springfield Falcons beginning on Saturday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Rink in West Springfield, Massachusetts. The teams wrap up the pre-season on Sunday, October 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bridgewater (Massachusetts) Ice Arena. For ticket information for the game at Bridgewater, please call (508) 279-0600.
