Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Neftali Soto blasted a game-tying and go-ahead home run as the Hillcats took game two of the series with Potomac 7-2.
Soto's first home run came in the fourth inning to tie the game at one. The Nationals got on the board in the first inning after a two-out RBI double by Michael Burgess.
The game stayed tied for only one inning before the Hillcats notched three runs in the sixth. Soto's second home run of the game broke the 1-1 tie. The multi-homer game was the first for the Hillcats this season and second of Soto's career. He ended the evening with four hits in four at-bats, two home runs (tied career high), three runs scored (career high) and three RBI.
His second home run scored Jose Gualdron, who led off the inning with a double
The first five batters to the plate got a hit in that inning. After Soto's homer, Carlos Mendez doubled and later scored after an Alex Buchholz single.
The Hillcats added three more in the bottom of the eighth. The first three hitters reached base, and Buchholz hit a sacrifice fly to score Soto. Miguel Rojas later broke out of his 1-for-34 slump with a two-RBI double.
Scott Carroll pitched well in his first start of the season. He threw five and one-third innings and gave up one earned run. He left with the game tied, though, and didn't qualify for the win. Andrew Bowman picks up the win in relief (1-1). He threw two and two-third innings of scoreless baseball and struck out two.
The Hillcats won only their fourth second game of the series. Previously, the Cats were 6-1 in series openers, and 3-11 in each following game.
Lynchburg continues its 10-game home stand tomorrow afternoon with the series finale against Potomac at 2:05. The Hillcats' 2010 Team Photo is the giveaway to the first 1,000 fans into City Stadium. The Hillcats send righty Curtis Partch to the mound (1-2, 3.21) against Nationals righty Patrick Lehman (0-0, 6.16 ERA).
