Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WILMINGTON, DE - Seth Loman homered for the third straight game and drove in four runs over the first two innings as the Dash beat the Wilmington Blue Rocks 10-5 on Saturday night at Frawley Stadium. Winston-Salem tied the three-game series at one apiece and remains a game ahead of Salem for first place in the Southern Division.
All of the Dash's runs in the game came with two out. For Winston, the scoring started early for the second straight night. With two outs in the first, Loman connected on a two-run home run to center field off Rocks starter Tim Mellville (1-3).
In the second inning, Winston-Salem (16-6) pounded away for five more runs against Melville to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Again, the rally began with two down as Drew Garcia doubled and Justin Greene walked. Brandon Short scored them both with a two-run double to left field. The knock extended his hitting streak to 19 straight games, the best hitting streak at any level in professional baseball this season.
After a walk to Eduardo Escobar, Jon Gilmore drove in Short with an RBI single to give the Dash a 5-0 lead. Loman then doubled on a fly ball down the left field line that ticked off the glove of Anthony Seratelli, scoring two more runs. When the throw home skipped past the plate, Loman tried to advance to third but was thrown out to end the inning.
After the Blue Rocks (9-11) hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the second off Nate Jones (3-1), the Dash plated two in the third inning. Two runs scored with two outs on a throwing error by shortstop Ryan Wood.
Each team scored a run in the eighth and Wilmington added another in the ninth to account for the final margin.
Jones allowed 12 baserunners over five innings, but only yielded three runs to pick up the win. Melville had a second-straight disastrous outing against Winston-Salem, giving up nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits in four innings to take the loss.
After Santos Rodriguez walked the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth, Gregory Infante struck out J.D. Alfaro to collect his third save of the week and the season.
The Dash posted 13 hits, including multi-hit games from Short (2 for 5), Gilmore (3 for 5), Loman (3 for 4), and Garcia (2 for 4). Loman also reached base on a hit-by-pitch and came a triple short of hitting for the cycle.
Winston-Salem looks win the three-game series on Sunday afternoon as LHP Charlie Leesman (3-1, 3.86) opposes LHP Ivor Hodgson (2-0, 4.85). First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. The pre-game show begins at 1:15 on www.wsdash.com.
The Dash returns to BB&T Ballpark on Friday, May 7 for a three-game series against the Salem Red Sox. Fans may purchase tickets for every Dash game this season by calling the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visiting www.wsdash.com.
