Frederick Keys News Release

In a game Frederick never led until it was four and a half hours old, the Keys prevailed scoring four times in the top of the 15th inning to reward a superb effort from its bullpen as the Keys defeated Myrtle Beach 7-3 in 15 innings Saturday night.

The win ended the Keys four game losing streak and gave Frederick its first win on its current six-game road trip.

Frederick trailed 3-1 after six innings when starter Ryan O'Shea left in what was the longest outing by a starter for Frederick this year. He would give way to Jose Duran who would begin an immaculate nine innings of scoreless relief. Duran worked three innings, Brett Jacobson four and Brandon Cooney, the game's eventual winner, two.

Frederick would inch within 3-2 by the eighth inning when they used speed to tie the game.

CF Kyle Hudson singled and then stole two bases. After RF Ronnie Welty earned a walk, he was replaced by pinch-runner Xavier Avery. Avery got caught in a rundown between first and second base but Hudson broke for the plate scoring on the play to tie the game. The Keys set a team-high with six steals on the night.

Each team threatened but could not break through until the 15th inning. Avery hit a high fly ball to right-center field that got in the alleyway for his first triple of the year. Later in the inning with the bases loaded and one out, DH Bobby Steven lined a two-run single to right field and the Keys had finally taken the lead. Frederick would plate four runs in the inning to win going away.

The Keys (12-10) now look to take the series Sunday, May 2nd in the rubber match at 3:05 p.m. in Myrtle Beach, SC. LHP Nate Nery will make the start for Frederick.

Frederick returns home for Kids Eat Free Monday, Monday, May 3rd as Frederick begins a seven-game homestand with a game against Winston-Salem. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
