SOTI Weekend Preview - Busy Week Ahead for the Trout
February 7, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Brampton Steelheads News Release
The Mississauga Steelheads look to get back on track this week as they host Hamilton and North Bay before heading out on the road to face Kingston and Ottawa.
The Rematch
The Steelheads kick off the week with a rematch against the Hamilton Bulldogs. The Trout came up short in their last meeting against the Bulldogs, falling 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. Joe Ranger was phenomenal, stopping 28/29 shots he faced. Mississauga had won three straight against Hamilton going into Saturday's game, and hold a 3-2-0-0 advantage in the season series. Team defence has been a source of strength for the Steelheads against Hamilton this season, averaging 1.6 goals against per game verses the Bulldogs.
Owen Beck leads the Steelheads with six points this season against the Bulldogs, and James Hardie leads the team with four goals. The Steelheads hold a 7-5-1-0 record this season in games immediately following a loss, and will look to improve upon the mark on Tuesday.
Divisional Matchup
Friday night sees the Steelheads play host to their Central Division rival, North Bay. Luca DelBelBelluz has been fantastic against the Battalion this season, leading all Steelheads and Battalion players with 10 assists in their six games against each other. The Trout also sport a 4-1-0-1 record against North Bay this season, with three of those wins coming at Paramount Fine Foods Centre. This is the seventh of nine meetings between the two clubs, and the second-last matchup at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre.
This is the first of three games in three days for the Steelheads, and only their second such sequence so far this season, and they will head out on the road for the remainder of the weekend.
Top Tier Teams
The Steelheads will travel to Kingston to take on the Frontenacs on Saturday night. Mississauga has a 2-2-0-1 record against Kingston this season, but have collected five of a possible six points at the Leon's Centre this year. The Steelheads will be looking to avenge their loss to the Frontenacs in their last meeting, which saw Kingston come away victorious at the Steelheads Teddy Bear Toss game on December 12th.
Luca DelBelBelluz has been a point machine against the Frontenacs this season, putting up four goals and five assists for nine points in five games, putting his skillset on full display against this year's consensus #1 overall pick in the upcoming NHL draft, Shane Wright. Both teams have been featured several times in the Kia CHL Top-10 Rankings this year, with the Steelheads ranked 6th and the Frontenacs ranked 9th this past week.
A Trip to the Nation's Capital
Sunday afternoon will see the Steelheads wrap up their busy week as they take on the Ottawa 67's. This will be the team's first trip to Ottawa since November 12th, which saw the Steelheads emerge victorious by a score of 3-0. The Trout were led by Joe Ranger that evening, as he stopped all 19 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season. Ranger, in addition to his first shutout of the season, recorded his second against the 67's as well. He has yet to allow a goal against Ottawa this season.
The Steelheads have won each of the previous three meetings with Ottawa this season, with two coming at home and the aforementioned 3-0 victory coming at TD Place Arena.
