(Ottawa 67's)

The Ottawa 67's are settling into a nice groove, after this weekend, having won three straight to kick off their February schedule. Not all the victories came easily, by final scores of 3-2 over the Peterborough Petes, 4-3 over the Niagara IceDogs, before Ottawa completed the sweep with a 5-2 victory over the IceDogs on home ice.

Here's your recap of all three contests:

Thursday, February 3, 2022

Ottawa 67's: 3 at Peterborough Petes: 2

In a game where the Barber Poles saw an early lead slip away, they stuck with it to the end, and fought through the Peterborough comeback to earn a 3-2 victory.

Vinzenz Rohrer opened the scoring with an absolute bullet, before Brady Stonehouse's chaotic crease-crashing ended in another marker, and a 2-0 Ottawa lead. The Petes clawed their way back into the game, however, on the back of two goals from Jonathan Melee, and paved the way for a back-and-forth battle.

Late in the second, Teddy Sawyer made an end-to-end rush, and roofed a shot from the high slot to give the 67's a lead that they'd never lose. Will Cranley shut things down in the third, and the Barber Poles moved on to Niagara with a 3-2 win.

Ottawa 67's: 4 at Niagara IceDogs: 3

Where their matchup with the Petes was a ping-pong'ing of movement, the 67's controlled most of their showdown with Niagara, before surviving a chaotic third period to win their second straight.

The Barber Poles again scored first, with a snipe from Will Gerrior opening the scoring, and it only took them 43 seconds to add to their lead. Sawyer made it consecutive games with goal, on a wrist shot from the point that found its way to the back of the goal for a 2-0 lead.

Thomas Johnston made it 3-0 with a goal of the year candidate, being tripped on a breakaway, and chipping the puck home while sliding, and a hard forecheck by Luca Pinelli in the third resulted in his seventh of the year, for a 4-0 lead.

In the dying minutes, the IceDogs mounted a comeback, with goals from Liam Van Loon, Brice Cooke, and Brenden Sirizzotti, but the Barber Poles eked out their second straight win, by a final score of 4-3.

Sunday, February 6, 2022:

Niagara IceDogs: 2 at Ottawa 67's: 5

With Max Donoso backstopping them to a victory for the second time in three nights, the 67's took an early lead and never looked back, cruising to a 5-2 win.

Despite the IceDogs getting on the board first, Stonehouse responded 16 seconds later, banging home a rebound to tie the game at 1-1.

Ottawa earned a lead of their own in the second, with Brad Gardiner ripping a shot past Joseph Costanzo, and on a powerplay later in the frame, Rohrer made a slick cross-crease pass to Cam Tolnai, who ended his 20-game skid with a one-timer.

Pano Fimis drew Niagara within one in the third, but Gerrior made it 4-2, before Pinelli iced the 5-2 victory.
