Generals Sweep Colts in Weekend Series
February 7, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release
The Oshawa Generals scored three in the third period to defeat the Barrie Colts 3-1 on Sunday night at Tribute Communities Centre.
The win was the third of the weekend for the Generals, as they pick up six of a possible six points as they continue to move up the Eastern Conference standings.
In the first period, it was all Barrie, as the Colts outshot the Generals 9-3 in the opening frame. Oshawa struggled to generate any considerable time in the offensive zone, and Zachary Paputsakis had to be perfect to keep this game scoreless.
The Colts got the first goal of the game 6:26 into the second period, as Nathan Allensen beat Paputsakis to give Barrie the lead.
However, just like in the previous games this weekend, the Generals saved their best for the third period.
First, captain Ty Tullio ties the game just eight minutes into the period to start the comeback. Assists on the goal go to Brett Harrison and Cameron Butler, as those three looked dangerous together all night.
Then, Ryan Gagnier, the MVP of the weekend for Oshawa, gave the Generals a 2-1 lead just over four minutes later with his 13th of the season.
Gagnier also played hero in the shootout on Friday night against Mississauga and scored the game's only goal on Saturday in Barrie.
Barrie would press hard for the tying goal, but Paputsakis and the Generals defence wouldn't give the Colts much hope. Eventually, Tullio put the game out of reach as he buries the puck into the empty net with 48 seconds remaining to secure a 3-1 victory for Oshawa.
The win moves the Generals record to 21-16-1-2 on the season, as they pass the Colts in the standings and now sit in 5th, five points behind the Hamilton Bulldogs.
The Generals next game will be on Friday, as they travel north to take on the 67's in Ottawa.
