Burlington, IA. - It was another tough offensive night for the Burlington Bees (25-35) who got chopped in their series finale against the Clinton LumberKings (33-26). Nick Wells (4-3) got the start for Clinton and did not disappoint. Wells went six and a third innings, allowed just two runs on three hits, while striking out four Bees. Jose Soriano (0-1) pitched in his first outing for the Bees but didn't have the debut start he was hoping for. Soriano went just three innings, allowed three runs on three hits, and threw a pair of walks.

Clinton jumps ahead in the first

The LumberKings once again put pressure on the Bees right away with a three run first inning. After a one out walk from Ariel Sandoval, Jack Larsen hit his 13th double this season deep to center field, scoring Sandoval and giving Clinton a 1-0 lead. After Ryan Costello drew a walk, Greifer Andrade lined a double to left, scoring Larsen and Costello to make the score 3-0.

Nick Thurman added a run in the fourth in the sacrifice fly to score Johnny Adams, giving Clinton a 4-0 lead.

Late scoring gives Clinton plenty of insurance

Andrade and Louis Boyd led the sixth off with back to back singles, and Thurman drove in his second run of the evening on a single to right, making it 5-0 Clinton. Boyd advanced to third on the single and crossed the plate after Joseph Rosa hit a sacrifice fly to right, giving Clinton a big 6-0 lead.

LumberKings added a run in the seventh on a solo homer run by Costello and one in the ninth on Andrade's solo homer.

The Bees only managed two runs in the game, which both came in the seventh inning. Kevin Williams Jr drove in Franklin Torres on a double to center, and Julio Garcia drove in Williams Jr on a single to center. Although Burlington finished the game with six hits, they couldn't find a way to get runners across the plate like in last night's victory.

Looking ahead

Bees will be hitting the road tomorrow morning, as they will travel to my home state of Wisconsin to take on the Beloit Snappers. Another new pitcher is expected to make his debut for the Bees in tomorrow's game. Denny Brady is the probable in tomorrow's game. Brady is 1-1 with a 4.43 ERA in 13 career games in the minors. Snappers are expected to start Wyatt Marks, who is 3-4 with a 4.25 ERA in nine starts this season. Marks pitched in the lone win for the Snappers in the Bees home series against them. Marks went six innings, allowed no runs, just two hits and struck out four. Bees have done well against Beloit this season, winning five of the seven games.
