Sorenson, Wings Slip Past Mallards in Overtime

MOLINE, Ill. - Tanner Sorenson scored at 1:10 of overtime to give the Kalamazoo Wings (28-24-4) a 3-2 victory over t he host Quad City Mallards (31-22-3) Wednesday night.

The third-place Mallards, who did earn one point for the sudden death setback, now lead the fourth-place Wings by five points in the Central Division standings. The top four clubs in the division will qualify for the Kelly Cup playoffs.

Sorenson steered the game winner in from the doorstep early in the extra period after t he Wings had twice battled back to tie the game seconds after falling behind.

Peter Schneider equalized from the right wing circle 40 seconds after Grant Arnold tipped in Justin Kovacs' centering pass to give the Mallards a 1-0 lead with exactly two minutes left in the first period. Josh MacDonald's close-range power play goal put the Mallards back on top at 10:41 of the second period only for Lane Scheidl to deadlcock the contest just 16 seconds later when his one-timer from the left wing circle was deflected home.

The Mallards return to action on home ice Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Indy Fuel. Fans can get Mo's Madhouse tickets and all-you-can-eat-and-drink at Saturday night's game for $50 per person. A $40 all-you-can-eat-and-drink option excluding alcoholic beverages is also available. Mo's Madhouse is the exclusive party area located behind the west goal at the iWireless Center.
