Mallards Trio Bound for Iowa

MOLINE, Ill. - Quad City Mallards forwards Nolan LaPorte and Jack Nevins have signed professional tryout agreements with the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild and the Wild has recalled forward Adam Gilmour from the Mallards, the Mallards announced today.

LaPorte, a 24-year old rookie, has scored 11 goals and picked up 24 assists for 35 points in 50 games with the Mallards this season. The 6-foot, 192-pound Mokena, Illinois, native ranks second on the team in plus/minus rating (plus-19). LaPorte joined the Mallards after skating in National Hockey League training camp with the Washington Capitals on a tryout agreement.

LaPorte scored eight goals and added nine assists for 17 points in 31 games as a senior at Western Michigan University last season. LaPorte scored 33 goals and collected 37 assists to total 70 points in 133 career collegiate games. He served as a Western Michigan co-captain as a junior while his most productive season as a Bronco was his sophomore campaign, during which he produced 11 goals, 13 assists and 24 points in 40 games.

LaPorte spent two seasons with the United States Hockey League's Green Bay Gamblers before making the move to WMU. He finished fourth in the USHL in points (70) in 2011-12 while helping Green Bay to the league title.

Nevins, 23, has set career highs with nine goals, 11 assists and 20 points this season. The 6-foot-1, 207-pound product of Stittsville, Ontario, leads the Mallards will 111 penalty minutes.

Nevins spent his first two campaigns in the AHL before joining the Mallards this season. He scored four times and registered 101 penalty minutes in 59 games with the Rochester Americans last year. In 2014-15, Nevins split his first full season between the Americans and the Hamilton Bulldogs after breaking into the pro ranks by playing three games with the Bulldogs at the end of the 2013-14 campaign. In 107 career AHL games, Nevins has notched four goals and one assist and piled up 214 penalty minutes.

Nevins played three seasons of junior hockey before turning pro, seeing action for the Sarnia Sting, Kingston Frontenacs and London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League and the Prince Edward Island Rocket/Charlottetown Islanders and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Gilmour, 23, returns to Iowa after being reassigned to the Mallards last Tuesday. The 6-foot-3, 193-pound Hanover, Massachusetts, native scored once and pocketed three assists in five games with the Mallards. The rookie has scored four goals and added six assists for ten points in 49 games with Iowa this season.

Gilmour played two games for the Wild last season immediately after completing his junior campaign at Boston College.

Gilmour, who was chosen by the Minnesota Wild in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft with the ninety-eighth overall pick, scored 12 goals and gathered 14 assists to total 26 points in 41 games for BC last season. Gilmour scored 28 times, recorded 45 assists and totaled 73 points while playing in each of the Eagles' 119 games over his three collegiate seasons. Gilmour helped BC to three straight NCAA tournament appearances and both the Hockey East regular season title and a Frozen Four berth in 2014 and again last season.

Gilmour skated for the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks for one season- 2012-13- before heading to BC. He scored 19 goals in USHL 64 games and led the Lumberjacks in points (47) and assists (28).

The Mallards return to action on home ice Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Indy Fuel.
