Sonics and Storm Open Information Center in Renton

SEATTLE, Wednesday, March 28, 2007 - The Seattle Sonics & Storm announced today that the franchise has opened an Information Center in downtown Renton. The new Information Center is located at 232 Burnett Avenue South, less than a mile from the proposed site of the new King County Events Center. The Center was opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony organized by the Renton Chamber of Commerce. Renton city and business leaders were present to celebrate the opening and welcome the Sonics and Storm. Over 100 Sonics and Storm staff also participated in the ceremony.
"Now that Renton is the chosen site for the proposed new arena, it is important for us as an organization to have a presence in the marketplace," said Sonics & Storm President Danny Barth. "It is important for us to continue to build strong relationships in South and East King County, and we can do that more effectively with a full-time presence in the community."
The Information Center opened today, and will serve as a place where fans can go to learn more about the arena project and the Sonics & Storm. The Sonics & Storm will invite local community business leaders for after-hour receptions, and the information center will also be used for sales presentations and networking events.
"We are very pleased to welcome the Sonics and Storm to their new regional information center in Renton," said Renton Mayor Kathy Keolker. "We applaud their dedication and commitment to Renton. Today's dedication is an invaluable step towards community building and an opportunity for the Renton community to personally interact with the Sonics and Storm and learn more about the proposed events center."
"We are extremely excited about the economic development opportunities that the Sonics and Storm can bring to Renton, with the new King County Events Center," said Bill Taylor, President of the Renton Chamber of Commerce. "This new information center in Renton demonstrates a commitment to our community and clearly states their intention to keep the teams in our region."
A fan computer will be set up in the lobby of the information center, where fans can visit a new website that was launched last week to help promote the development of a multipurpose regional events center in Renton. The website, www.eventscenterfacts.com, provides financing facts, questions and answers, artists' renderings, media coverage and other information to help people understand the opportunity and benefits the proposed King County Events Center would provide to the community, the region and the state.
