
Seattle Storm Re-sign Iziane Castro Marques

SEATTLE, Thursday, March 29, 2007 - The Seattle Storm today re-signed 6-0 forward/guard Iziane Castro Marques, Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Anne Donovan announced. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"I am pleased that we were able to re-sign Izi to a multi-year contract with the Storm," Donovan said. "She is currently completing another successful off-season and was Brazil's finest player at the World Championship this past fall. Izi really is starting to come in to her own as a player."
Castro Marques appeared in all 34 games for the Storm during the 2006 season, 26 of them in a starting role, and averaged 7.2 ppg, 2.1 rpg and 1.4 apg. She scored a career-high 26 points at New York on July 22 and grabbed a career-high three steals at Los Angeles on June 28. Castro Marques owns careers averages of 7.7 ppg, 1.8 rpg and 2.0 apg over four season split between Miami, Phoenix and Seattle.
During the 2005 WNBA season, Castro Marques appeared in 33 games, starting 32 times and averaged career highs in points (8.2), rebounds (2.9), assists (1.5) and minutes (26.6). She ranked 14th in the league in free-throw percentage (.808) and scored in double figures nine times, leading the Storm in scoring twice. Castro Marques scored a season-high 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting on July 19 vs. New York.
Castro Marques originally signed with the Miami Sol on April 25, 2002. During the 2002 WNBA season she played as the league's second youngest player at only 20 years of age. She signed with the Phoenix Mercury as a free agent on April 15, 2003. After spending 2004 training with the Brazilian National Team, Castro Marques signed with the Storm on April 6, 2005.
The 2007 Storm season will open against the Houston Comets on Saturday, May 19, at 7 p.m. The following Wednesday, May 23, Seattle will host the Phoenix Mercury at 7 p.m. at KeyArena. The defending WNBA Champion Detroit Shock will visit KeyArena on Wednesday, June 20.
